Rescuing & Reusing Old Furniture, Texas Hold ’em Poker and More in Continuing Education Workshops at Southampton Graduate Campus
Southampton, N.Y. – Instructor Barbara Barri taught herself how to turn an old coffee table into an upholstered bench. She’ll pass along the secrets to finding new uses and new life for old furniture in a series of Saturday morning workshops at the Southampton Graduate Campus of Long Island University beginning May 6.
Barri will explain what tools are necessary and give tips on where to find great pieces (like an attic or a yard sale) to rescue, redesign, paint and upholster. Students will work on a piece of their own furniture in the second and third sessions. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on May 6, 13 and 20. Tuition for all three sessions is $75.
Upcoming seminars at the Southampton Graduate Campus include:
•You’re On The Air: How To Make It In Voice-Overs
Instructor Dan Levine will discuss the voice-over business, its income potential and how to produce the most effective demo. Students will step up to the microphone to practice recording. Tuesday, May 2, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuition: $50.
•The Permanent Press Talks with the Authors
Featured will be Marty Shepard, a local publisher of The Permanent Press in Sag Harbor, and two local authors, Chris Knopf and Jess Gregg, both recently published by this award-winning publishing house. A panel discussion will allow for a lively, interactive and educational talk. Saturday, May 6, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Tuition: $20.
This is a humorous and lighthearted yet informative introduction to this great poker game, which takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master.
