New LIU Riverhead Site Brings Top Quality Graduate Education to the East End
Master’s courses toward prestigious degrees in homeland security management, public administration and teacher education are now conveniently accessible in central Suffolk County at the new Riverhead site of Long Island University, located on the Eastern Campus of Suffolk County Community College.
Premium private education comes to Riverhead in September in a 10,000-square-foot facility at 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, just 10 minutes from exit 70 of the Long Island Expressway. The public is invited to an Open House at the new Riverhead site on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to meet faculty and administrators and learn about the educational opportunities available at the Riverhead site.
Long Island University students studying in Riverhead on the Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus will enjoy the use of campus amenities, including the library, bookstore and cafeteria. The site offers ample parking.
Long Island University’s ground-breaking, online Master of Science and Advanced Certificate programs in Homeland Security Management are the first of their kind approved and registered with the New York State Education Department, and are among the first in the nation. Law enforcement, public safety and private security professionals, as well as public officials and people with undergraduate degrees who are interested in a homeland security career, will find no better program in this vital and growing field.
Also offered at the Riverhead site are courses leading to the Master of Public Administration degree. The M.P.A. program, which is administered by the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, is one of few programs in this region accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. The M.P.A. degree prepares students to lead government agencies and non-profit organizations, and also is ideal for current public sector administrators who wish to enhance their skills and advance their careers.
Long Island University is a regional leader in graduate degrees in education. Master's-level courses leading to degrees in Childhood Education, Teaching Students with Disabilities, Literacy Education and Certification in Elementary Education will be offered at the new Riverhead site.
“The Riverhead location will bring highly respected graduate-level courses within easy reach of residents of Brookhaven and the north and south forks,” said Jennifer Browne, associate provost of Long Island University’s Riverhead site.
