Fans of Southampton Graduate Campus Men's Basketball will be able to enjoy the team's 1996-97 season on WLNG 92.1 FM/1600 AM and Cablevision Channel 27.
The Sag Harbor-based WLNG, a 6,000 watt FM station, will air ALL home and away games of the Runnin' Colonials on their 92.1 frequency and/or their 1600 AM outlet. A live post-game show from the Southampton Publick House will take place after each home contest.
"WLNG has served the community for 34 years, so we are delighted to broadcast college basketball to the East End," said Bob Bubka, who will handle play- by-play duties. "This is an exciting opportunity for the team and our audience."
Cablevision Peconic Bay Television Channel 27, which reaches 45,000 viewers in Riverhead, Southampton, Southold and Shelter Island, will broadcast selected dates from Southampton's 26-game season. Ed Zaborowski will do play-by-play.
Channel 27's first broadcast will be of the Runnin' Colonials Dec. 7 home opener against St. Rose, which will air on tape Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 p.m. For information on when games will be re-broadcast, call (516) 727-0495.
"We're privileged to have WLNG and Channel 27 at our games," said Sidney Green, Southampton's Head Coach. "This exposure is a great asset to our program."
"Provost Tim Bishop, Chancellor Bob Sillerman and Coach Green have brought great excitement to the College," said Paul Sidney, WLNG's President/GM. "We're glad to be part of it."
In 1995-96, Southampton enjoyed its best season in 15 years under rookie head coach Sidney Green, and reached the ECAC playoffs for the first time since 1972. It also earned the Sam Schoenfeld Award, presented to the college with "the highest degree of sportsmanship, character and ethics."
