Registration Deadline is April 7 for Down Syndrome Conference
Hugely-Successful Conference Continues to Educate

Southampton, NY – The deadline for registration in Southampton College’s two-day conference on Down syndrome is April 7. The featured speaker this year is world-renowned Down syndrome expert Dr. Sue Buckley of the University of Portsmouth, UK. Dr. Buckley, Director for Research and Training at the Down Syndrome Educational Trust, will give the keynote address “Evidence for the Benefit of Full Inclusion for Children with Down Syndrome.”
Titled “The Third Annual Conference on Best Practices in the Education of Children with Down Syndrome,” the event takes place Friday, April 15 and 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Ronkonkoma. Pre-conference workshops will be held on April 14. It is co-sponsored by the Education and Social Science Divisions of Southampton College and the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation aimed at teachers, parents, professionals and students interested in appropriate interventions for children with Down syndrome, Applied Behavior Analysis, proactive strategies for dealing with challenging behaviors, speech and language intervention and Inclusion.
Other presenters include Southampton College professors Dr. Kathleen Feeley and Emily Jones, Ph.D., Sanja Cale and John Innis from Stony Brook University, Christine Ponzio and Kim Tynan of the Developmental Disabilities Institute and representatives from local advocacy groups. Onsite childcare for parents of children with Down Syndrome is available on the conference day by reservation only due to a limited availability.
