Southampton Edged out in Home Opener

Southampton, NY Southamptons Colonials mens basketball team ran out of gas just short of the finish line on Tuesday night in their season home opener against Dowling College.
They lead 31-29 at the half, but in a nine-minute spell in the second fell apart to let Dowling take a 12-point lead with six minutes remaining. It was then that the pre-season drilling and scrimmages kicked in for Southampton, taking them on a 16 to six rampage.
Senior Leon Pursoo found fellow senior Joaquin Smits with: 21 seconds remaining to give the Colonials a brief 58-57 lead which Dowlings freshman Genc Selimi negated 20 seconds later with a well timed three pointer, breaking Southamptons back 60-58.
Pursoo finished the game with 14 points, five assists and four steals while senior Darrin Miller had 12 points and a career-high nine steals, including four steals in the games final 1:30.
Dowling improves to 1-1, 1-0 NYCAC while Southampton falls to 1-1, 1-0 NYCAC.
