The Southampton Players open their spring season with William Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors." Auditions will be held on February 10 and 11.
Shakespeare's high-rollicking, classic farce about two sets of misplaced twins separated at birth will be cleverly set in the jazz age. As is Theater Director Michael Disher and the Players' style, many bawdy and boisterous antics will help propel this farce on stage. "Shakespeare's tales are timeless and work in many different eras," said Disher. "Setting this comedy in the Roaring '20s seems a perfect fusion. High style, comedy and high jinks will certainly escalate this uproarious comedy."
Eighteen roles are available for this production that include two actors for each pair of twins, Dromio and Antipholus (20s); female love interests include Adriana (20s) and Luciana (20s), Luce (30s), Courtesan (30s) and several courtesans. Duke Solinus (50s), Egeon (40s), Dr. Pinch, an exorcist (50s) and assorted merchants, officers and messengers round out the cast. Those auditioning should come prepared with a one-minute classical or Shakespearean monologue. Women should wear dance clothes and character shoes.
Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 10 and 11 at 6 p.m. in the Avram Theater. Performance dates are March 27-30 and April 3-6. Call (631) 287-8088.
