SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y.- Southampton College senior point guard Dani Thomas has been raking in the accolades this season. She has been named the New York Colligate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team. She also scored her 1000th point with the Southampton College Lady Colonials in a playoff game on Tuesday. Thomas has been her team lead scorer in nearly every game. Not only is she leading the league in scoring, netting 23.4 points per game so far for the season, but she is among the top three scorers in the NCAA Division II. Her number of field goals made is also tops (67) in the league, where she is also top-ranked in assists, with an average of 5.3 per game. She has even broken the Southampton College season record of 474 points scored set in 1994-95 by Meegan McGuire. Thomas transferred to Southampton College last year from Frederick Community College in Maryland, where she was named to the junior college All American team, also scoring 1000 points. She has done all this despite being small in stature, standing only 5-foot-3. As a team captain, Thomas has consistently led her team with perseverance and a positive attitude, and it has really paid off. The Lady Colonials are currently hoping to secure an Eastern Colligate Athletic Conference playoff berth.
