Southampton College's Writers Speak Lecture Series Continues With Betsy Carter

Betsy Carter, author of the memoir "Nothing to Fall Back On: The Life and Times of a Perpetual Optimist,' is the final writer to speak in the MFA lecture series. She will be reading at in Duke Lecture hall May 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Carter's novel chronicles a life some women dream of; a whirlwind of high-profile parties and designer fashions. This success is marred by a series of personal disasters. Somehow she perseveres and emerges on the other side a deeply satisfied woman.

Betsy Carter was the founding editor of New York Woman, editor-in-chief of New Woman, and an editor at a number of magazines, including Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, and Newsweek. The founder of My Generation magazine, she lives in New York City.
