Course Overview
Cindy Friedeman has a close encounter with a beautiful Holothurian on the sand flats of Stradbroke Island.
The best way to learn about marine ecology is up close and personal. Southampton Graduate Campus’s location on the East End of Long Island provides an excellent laboratory for studying temperate marine ecology. But to learn about tropical marine ecology, Southampton offers two courses that immerse the student in the tropical marine environment. One is Tropical Marine Biology, which takes place during the month of January in South Pacific locales like Fiji and Tonga. The other course, which is the subject of this web page, is AustraLearn: Tropical Marine Ecology. Throughout the month of June, students in this Tropical Marine Ecology course investigate a variety of tropical environments on the Queensland coast of Australia, the Great Barrier Reef, and at research stations on three islands.
